A war orphan, Astrid Bailey is content living her adult life alone, working as a contract machinist. Her real passion, though, is inventing felicitation devices that promote women’s sexual empowerment and help them find pleasure independent of a man.

The upcoming World’s Fair, with its substantial cash prize, is an opportunity to open the shop she’s always imagined and hopefully solve her financial woes. Except the committee has denied her entry unless she obtains a “sponsor”. Astrid suspects they mean “male”.

Eli Rutledge, noted watchmaker, knows entering the fair will solidify his reputation as an innovator —but he’s fresh out of ideas. Until Astrid approaches him with her outrageous product line. With no other options, though, he agrees to lend her his good name.

As construction heats up, so does their chemistry—and the complications. Astrid is unaccustomed to asking for help, much less sharing credit. And Eli fights an attraction that could spell professional disaster. As the Fair date approaches, Astrid and Eli must decide how far they’ll go. For the business…and for each other.

Product Warnings Contains period-appropriate graphic language, highly inappropriate amounts of M/F and F/F sex, and copious amounts of *ahem* product testing. May *ahem again* “spark” an online shopping binge for *cough* toys. Of the adult variety.

Astrid hopped up on the worktable, legs dangling freely. “Eli, you can hang on to whatever outdated notions of propriety work for you in your world, but I’m not going to deny myself what I want just because I’m worried about what people will think.”

Taking deep, calming breaths, he studied her. Maybe she had a point. Maybe it wasn’t his responsibility to protect her reputation. Maybe she did want to sleep with him. Damn, he wanted to believe her.

Seeming to sense his acquiescence, Astrid made him an offer. “Look, I’m only talking about one night. Resolve this tension between us, and then we can get back to work like normal.”

It was tempting. He hesitated, running through the pros and cons in his mind. She was so damn sexy, sitting there swinging her feet, her dark eyes sparkling in the light from the lanterns. He’d sworn off relationships after Mallory, wasn’t going to go through that heartache again. But Astrid wasn’t proposing a relationship—and he wasn’t surprised; she was dynamic, bold, adventurous, and he was a straightforward businessman like every other businessman. She was proposing sex. If it didn’t mean anything, couldn’t they share one night and be done with it? No heartache, no complications?

“Just one night. One night, and this never happens again.” He ran a hand through his hair. “Right?”

“Of course. You’re still a self-righteous prude, and I doubt I’d be able to stand more than one night.” Her smile indicated that she was teasing, but she’d made it clear what she thought of him already.

He looked around the workshop. “So…what happens now, exactly?”

Astrid hopped down off her bench. “Now, I think you take me home.”

About the author

annaI decided to become a writer in the third grade (or, as my Canadian friends call it, grade three), after winning a "Why My Mother is the Greatest" essay contest and having my entry published in a major newspaper. Seeing my words in print was a thrill! But everyone told me it's too hard for novelists to get published, so after college I spent fourteen years as the CEO of my own jewelry store chain before writing my first book. A mistake? Maybe...but my first heroine, Amethyst, was a jeweler, so at least I took advantage of that wise old saying, "Write what you know." And I learned a good lesson: Don't let other people tell you what you can or can't do!

I write humorous historical romance mostly set in England and Scotland in the 17th and 19th centuries (Restoration and Regency periods). I've been oh-so-lucky to see my books hit bestseller lists all over the world, including the New York Times and USA Today lists, making this second career a real dream come true. I live in Southern California with my husband, our three young adult children, and one constantly shedding cat, and I still think my mother is the greatest!

Visit my website at, where you can see the real people and real places in my books, enter a contest, sign up for my newsletter, and find historical recipes for the foods in my books.

Author Interview & New Release: The Maddening Lord Montwood (The Rakes of Fallow Hall #3) by Vivienne Lorret

Frances Thorne learned at an early age to rely on herself. Yet, losing her job and her home and watching her father carted off to debtor’s prison all in one day, is too much for her to bear alone. When a generous offer of assistance falls into her lap, she ignores her better instincts and decides to take a chance. The last thing she needs is for the infuriating Lord Lucan Montwood to stand in her way.

The end of the bachelors’ wager is near, and Lucan Montwood can taste victory. Yet, on the precipice of finally gaining freedom from his debts, he’s incensed to learn that the beautiful Frances Thorne has fallen into an insidious trap in the guise of a new position. Lucan can’t deny the way her lips call to him and knows he must risk his own future to ensure her safety.

Convincing her to trust him is the hard part and resisting her is next to impossible. But falling in love with her? That’s far too simple.

“I’m not going to kiss you again,” he said firmly. Yet when he looked down to her mouth, he didn’t seem entirely sure.
Her lips tingled. “I made no request.”
“Yes, you did. You are,” he accused her, lifting both hands to cradle her face. He held her still as he leaned in, not quite kissing her. Not quite touching her with his lips. But almost. “I never should have kissed you in the first place.”
“That’s correct. You only kissed me to make a point, after all.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t remember the point at the moment. The darkness was wreaking havoc with her sense of reason, casting a spell.
“I can still taste you, Miss Thorne.”
A small whimper rose from her throat. His words shocked her. Thrilled her. “What do I taste like?”
    “Temptation in its purest form.”

Author interview

I'm delighted to have Vivienne join me to anwer a few questions for the blog. Please give her a very warm welcome ...

Thank you for having me here today!

Where are you from?
I have lived in the Midwest all of my life, not far from Lake Michigan or the Fighting Irish.

Tell us your latest news?
THE MADDENING LORD MONTWOOD is available! Yay! This is the third and final book of The Rakes of Fallow Hall Series.

I first introduced Lucan Montwood in The Wallflower Wedding Series as a charming rake with a dark past. Now, readers will find out his story and meet our independent, headstrong heroine, Frances Thorne, who challenges him at every turn and tempts him beyond reason. I loved writing these characters!

What book are you reading now?
The Liar by Nora Roberts

What are your current projects?
I’m currently writing a novella for the Avon Christmas anthology, All I Want for Christmas is a Duke. This Regency anthology will also feature stories from USA Today bestselling author, Ashlyn Macnamara, along with Valerie Bowman and Tiffany Clare.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I grew up in a family of storytellers, and of Sunday gatherings around a harvest table. My father was one of ten children, eight of them boys with mischievous natures and a competition between them to see who could make my grandmother faint. You can imagine the wild tales and raucous laughter that filled the dining room.

My own storytelling spawned from those moments, and also from a love of fairy tales. From there, it was nurtured by a kind and wise teacher, who suggested writing as a method to find my way through a difficult time in my life. I’ve been writing ever since.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I’d love to! In this scene, Frances Thorne can’t seem to stop herself from admiring Lucan’s sexy backside. 

Lucan stood. The tails of his coat fell into place. Only then did she realize she’d been staring quite fixedly at the strong lines of his shoulders, the narrowness of his hips, and his backside. Again.

Keeping a hand draped over the dog’s scruff, he gently thrummed his fingers in time with ticking clock stand in the corner. “Miss Thorne, I do not mean to alarm you, but you are about to meet two of the most determined young women of my acquaintance.”

Curious, her gaze locked on the open doorway. “Determined for what, precisely?”

“To see me married by year’s end.” He said the words with such gravity that a streak of alarm did indeed shoot through her. “They will see you here and begin plotting instantly, especially if you continue to ogle my person when my back is turned.”

She started. There was no way he could have known—but then she noticed the reflective glass in the door of the clock stand and felt her cheeks betray her. “I was not ogling you. Not at all. You have a . . . a spot on your coat, and I was debating whether or not to tell you.”

“Is it a large spot or a small spot?” He grinned.

She narrowed her eyes, feeling the tips of her lashes brush against her lenses. “Hideously large, like your ego.”

Who designed the covers?
Avon has the most amazing artists in their art department. They’ve created one stunning cover after the next, and I can’t decide which one is my favorite. Do you have a favorite?

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Keep writing no matter what. Every day. Nurture the half-crazed beast that lives inside of your mind. Let it out to play. Feed it often. Then, most importantly, do something special for yourself.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I’m grateful for having readers who willingly turned that first page and kept going. I feel blessed every time someone clicks “like” on my Facebook page, sends me a message, or signs up for my newsletter. Thank you all, and I wish you every blessing that life can offer.

New Release: Lucky's Choice (The Last Riders #7) by Jamie Begley

Lucky’s Choice
The Last Riders # 7
By: Jamie Begley
Releasing July 29th, 2015
Young Ink Press

Life dealt him a dead man’s hand.

Lucky had always led a life of service, always putting his life on the line for someone else, managing to survive by pure luck and skill. After bringing an end to a multi-state drug ring, he was finally able to live the life he had wanted as a Last Rider.

A good man would walk away and not touch the curvy woman who had been tugging on his heartstrings. Lucky wasn’t a good man. Therefore, the bad-ass biker in him had a choice: once again become the man he had pretended to be and stake his claim or take the devil’s highway.
Some girls had all the luck.

Willa wasn’t one of them. All she wanted to do was give a home to the children she had made orphans. Instead, she found herself needing help from the man who had left the pulpit behind to embrace a life of sin.

Painfully shy and withdrawn, she wanted a quiet life, a simple man, and well-behaved children. The last thing she had ever expected was for Lucky to want her size twenty body and show her a passion that would lead her straight to hell.

“Did you see who did this?” Lucky heard the accusation in his own voice, but it was too late to regain his temper as Willa paled. He was having a shit time with women so far today.
Willa walked toward him, the five children following behind her.
“Is something wrong …?” Her words trailed off as her eyes caught sight of his bike.
“We just came outside. Chrissy and Caroline saw a stray cat when they were playing outside earlier. They wanted to feed it…”
Lucky’s eyes went to the tabby cat at the side of Willa’s house that was contentedly eating tuna from a can. Then he studied the children. “Are you sure you didn’t hear or see anything?”
“Jenna’s house is closer to your bike. It would be easily seen from her living room window. If you didn’t see anything, why would we?” Willa said.
Lucky’s face turned red in embarrassment and anger at her logic. “Because I’m not the one who’s constantly looking out the window.”
Once again, Willa was the one turning bright red. “I’ll go get something to clean the paint off.”
She hurried inside her house, leaving him alone with five kids staring at him with varying expressions—from the overtly hostile glares of the two older girls to the three younger ones scowling at him.
“We didn’t see who touched your bike,” Leanne stated, staring him directly in the eyes.
Lucky knew the children fairly well from when he had been undercover as pastor.     Leanne and Sissy were sisters; their mother Georgia had been a member of his congregation who had recently been killed when she was incarcerated for setting a fire in The Last Rider’s clubhouse. Shade and his wife Lily could have easily died if not for the precautions that Viper, the club president, had taken.
“I just asked if anyone had seen anything, Leanne. Maybe one of you put the other up to doing it?”
A firestorm was unleashed at his words.
“We don’t put each other up to doing stuff that will get us in trouble!” Sissy snapped. The oldest girl, at seventeen, had been hit the hardest by her mother’s death.
Lucky guiltily admitted to himself that he was wrong. This wasn’t a prank a kid would play.
“What does the word mean?” Charlie, the eight-year-old, questioned as he held his younger sister Caroline’s hand while his other sister, Chrissy, stared at him, sucking her thumb.
The three younger children Willa was fostering were Lewis’s, Georgia’s brother, who had also been raising his nieces after her death. Lewis had been determined to marry Willa to help care for his large family. The sick bastard had gotten his wish; he just wasn’t around to benefit from it. Willa had shot and killed him when he had come to her house in a rage and attacked not only her but also Rachel, who had tried to help her.
“It means that Pastor Dean isn’t acting like a pastor anymore.” Sissy smirked at him.
Lucky knew her age and recent difficulties were responsible for her attitude, but it didn’t keep him from snarling back at her. “You have a problem with me, Sissy?”
“I have a problem with you treating Willa the way you just did.”
“Willa needs to learn to take up for herself. She doesn’t need another person taking up for her. Certainly not a seventeen-year-old.”
Caroline’s foot kicked out, striking him in the leg.
“Stop it!” Lucky had long since lost control of the embarrassing situation.

"I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.

Taking after my mother, I've always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.

For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who both graduated this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.

Currently I am writing five series of books- The Last Riders, The VIP Room, Predators MC, Biker Bitches, and The Dark Souls.
All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”
